Government Rating Method

Potential Government Rating

M = Number of years as full-time military or law enforcement
J = Number of years as a Lawyer, Judge, Executive, or part-time military
L = Number of years as a legislator
B = Number of years as a government bureaucrat


Government Potential = ( M + 1/2×J + 1/4×L + 1/8×B )

Actual Government Rating

V = Percentage of pro-military votes
A = Percentage of votes defending the right to keep and bear arms according to the 2nd Amendment

Government Actual = (V+A)/2 × Government Potential

  • Pro-military Vote record is according to Vets for Freedom
  • Vote record defending 2nd Amendment rights is according to NRA Grade, where available. Where that is not available, Grade from Gun Owners of America is used. Where neither are available, a grade of C+ (equivalent to 50% by the table below) is used.

The following table is used to convert the letter grades into a numerical percentage for use in the Actual Government Rating calculations:

A+ 100%
A 91%
A- 83%
B+ 75%
B 66%
B- 58%
C+ 50%
C 41%
C- 33%
D+ 25%
D 16%
D- 8%
F 0%
